Masks are the most underutilized of all the beneficial objects in the Sons of the Forest. It's a relatively unremarkable item with no special skills or stat-altering effects. But whether it's a red or gold mask, it can save your life while dealing with wild cannibals. It blinds adversaries when worn, much like an auspicious suit. The matter of how participants are supposed to profit from it, though, is under dispute. In Sons of the Forest, masks are treated in a similar manner. In the game, players can craft an adequate number of Sons of the Forest Items.
What to do with masks in Sons of the Forest
Masks are utility items for camouflage. Wear it near Cannibals to blend in. Enemies cannot become hostile and remain passive as long as the mask is equipped. Don't use masks on already aggressive cannibals. This item is for calm meat eaters only.
To put the mask on, hold down the right button (RT on the controller) and release the button to remove it. Then press G (or B on an Xbox controller) to stow or put it down.
The difference between the red mask and the golden mask
The difference between the red and gold masks in Sons of the Forest is subtle. The red mask scares away weaker cannibals, while the gold mask scares away stronger enemies. While little is known about the colors of the masks, they appear to indicate the rank of the wearer, with gold a symbol of superiority.
The Red Mask is comparable to the Red Pain of the Forest Sons's predecessor, the Forest. It will confuse some enemies, preventing them from attacking the player. But the main difference is that, unlike paint, red masks won't affect already hostile cannibals.
Golden camouflage is a new addition, possibly a golden armor component. It keeps the most aggressive cannibals away. But unlike its red counterpart, it cannot be crafted.
How to get the red mask
To get a red mask, gather resin and print one with a 3D printer. Each red mask was printed in 15 seconds and consumed 150ml of resin. (3D printers found in underground maintenance hatches and cave bunkers)
The unused printers come with 850ml of resin, which means they can print up to 5 red masks each. But if they run out of materials, extra resin can be collected by searching abandoned camps and bunkers.
Where to find the golden mask
In the cave bunker close to the southeast lake, locate the Golden Mask. Enter the autopsy room on level 5 to the left of the maintenance door after entering the bunker. The bodies in this chamber are covered with masks. Visit 600pu.com for more game guides.
